I've played in AC many times. The three places to play hold'em are the
Tropicana, Taj Mahal, and the Borgata. The three places have slightly
different limits in the low-limit games. Taj has 3/6 and 5/10. Trop 2/4,
4/8 and 7.5/15 and the Borgata 3/6 and 6/12. Taj and Borgata also have some
mid-limit games (10/20, 15/30 and 20/40). If you want to play 50/100 or
higher your only choice pretty much is the Taj although Borgata may have a
game. If you want to play pot limit, Borgata usually has a game on
weekends. Trop used to have a game, but I am not sure if it still goes
since Borgata opened. Trop is the only place with regular tournaments. Of
the three rooms, Taj is the biggest although a little grungy. Borgata is
the newest and maybe the nicest. Trop is also pretty nice, but their
business has been hurt a little since Borgata opened. If you have time I
would check out all three.
Regarding etiquette, you'll find that the casino game is usually faster than
the home game so be ready to act when it is your turn. Also, do not act out
of turn. If you are going to raise it is best to say "raise". String
raises are not allowed. (a string raise is a raise where you call first,
hesitate and then raise). Do not throw your chips into the pot. Instead
place them in front of you and the dealer will collect them (this ensures
everyone puts in the proper amount). Do not slow roll (this means when it
is your turn at show down, show your hand instead of waiting for everyone
else to show first. Generally, the bettor shows first and then clockwise
from there.) When you do reach the showdown always show both cards even if
only one plays (for example, if the board is AKQJ and you hold a ten you
should show both cards).
One piece of advice. Protect your hand at all times. Handle your cards so
the players next to you cannot see your hand. If you reach a showdown and
think you lost, make sure you see your opponents cards, don't go by what the
player announces (sometimes players or dealers misread the hand, rarely,
players deliberately miscall their hand). When you think you have won the
hand, don't release your hand to the dealer until he is pushing you the pot.
If you think you have won, and everone else has thrown in their hands and
then you throw in your hand, if another player actually still does have a
hand, that player may be awarded the pot. If there is any problem, usually
it is best to call the floor and get a ruling. If you are in the seat next
to the dealer, it is a good idea to put a chip or some other token on top of
your cards, otherwise the dealer may inadvertantly muck your hand.
Hope this helps.
