$1/$2 pot-limit holdem, live game, 8-handed. Average stack size 100-200
chips. I've got about 250.
I get [As 7s] in early position. Normally I will pass with this hand but
there are five or six limpers preflop on most hands, with few raises. So
I limp and only two players limp from late position. SB folds, BB checks,
4 see the flop.
Flop comes [Ac 9s 2s]. I have top pair, bad kicker, with the nut
four-flush. I bet the pot (about $9), the button calls, BB calls. Pot is
$27.
Turn comes [Ac 9s 2s 6d]. I didn't like getting 2 callers but I go ahead
and pot it again, $27. Button folds. Big blind calls the $27 and raises
another $40 on top. He's only got another $50 or so left in his stack
after the raise.
I put him on two pair or a set (maybe AK?). Whatever I put him on, I feel
like I need an ace or spade on the river to win. I figure, that's 9
spades plus 2 aces, 11 outs. So I've got 35 to 11 against making my hand
on the next card, or about 3.2 to 1 against. The pot is laying me 120 to
40, or about 3 to 1, so I fold, because even when I do make my hand, I'm
only going to be able to sell it for another $20 or at most $50. We asked
the dealer to peel off another card and a 9 came on the river. The BB
showed me A6.
So I'm thinking that folding in that spot was a pretty gutless play. What
do you think?
