Illegal and unregulated vs legal and regulated ... no legal and
unregulated ... I hate it when the government gets involved ...
whenever they solve one problem ... They have this tendency to create
2 more ...
Leaving it unregulated as it is may have problems ... but i rue the
day when regulation takes effect ...
One may play poker online provided they have taken the officially
mandated Gambler's Anonymous course ...
One may play poker online provided they are generating the electricity
used in a carbon neutral manner ...
One may play poker online only when no transfats are being
consumed ...
I can think up thousands ... some even sillier than these that
actually will be in effect ...
Most feared words ever heard ...
We're from the government ... and we're here to help you ... >> Stay informed about: Legalize and regulate online gambling, study urges |

While regulating users would be a disaster, I'd like to see the card
rooms regulated to prevent cheating. >> Stay informed about: Legalize and regulate online gambling, study urges |

Most of the cheating online is collusion which it seems to me is often
found and dealt with by the site ... what regulation would the
government make up to handle it ??
Think how you would go about making a regulation ... then move it to
the nth degree and add numerous sidelights ... that's what would
happen even there ...
I work for a chemical company ... and we essentially got out of one
product line because of the new anti-terrorist regulations being put
into effect ... since we stored one of the raw materials that were on
the list ...
that raw material .... btw ... is available in Home Depot ... >> Stay informed about: Legalize and regulate online gambling, study urges |

I've read several here where people complained and the site
investigated and either cleared or upheld the collusion ... Some at
rahter minor stakes in what I recall ...
They investigated the people accused and looked back at their history
and betting patterns ... and came to a conclusion ...
If cheaters have found better ways ... I'm sure the different sites
would love to learn about that ... each and every site's survival is
based on the trust of their constituents ... >> Stay informed about: Legalize and regulate online gambling, study urges |

Name a collusion team that got caught by a site.
So far as I can tell they don't do jack shit until it becomes a huge
scandal, then they spring into action to figure out how much they can
cover up. >> Stay informed about: Legalize and regulate online gambling, study urges |

Well, yes, but there would also be tax issues concerning the poker rooms.
The immediate impact of those issues would drive up the rake. >> Stay informed about: Legalize and regulate online gambling, study urges |

Enforceable criminal penalties for cheating would be good enough. That
way, if a US-based cardroom were caught with, say, superuser accounts
viewing hole cards, there would be actual consequences. >> Stay informed about: Legalize and regulate online gambling, study urges |

Mostly, what I've read is sites stonewalling and bullshitting
endlessly. And people haven't generally merely complained. It's been
publicly and exhaustively proven to the point that absolutely nothing
but blatant cheating was a plausible explanation. Full Tilt has been
basically shown to tolerate bot-users. I'd be amazed if any high
stakes table isn't a hotbed of collusion at this point. >> Stay informed about: Legalize and regulate online gambling, study urges |

The cheating and shady swindles that go on in unregulated markets are
a form of tax. At least one can plan on a known tax. The random tax
of having chunks of your bankroll nibbled at by site failures,
transfer difficulties, and similar bullshit cannot be easily reduced
to a fixed factor that can be calculated to determine whether an
activity is profitable.
It's like the road gamblers of Texas in Doyle's day, getting robbed at
gunpoint, beaten up, or arrested, as compared to the poker players of
today sitting in air conditioned rooms, getting free hot dogs, and
only occasionally being stabbed or beaten. They pay a known tax for
that, a rake, and it buys security and predictability.
In society, we generally do exchange some degree of personal profit in
return for some degree of security. If we are ultimately unsatisfied
with it to a great enough degree, we replace the system we have with
another.
It's time to bring poker into the realm of aboveground, legal
activities. Although a return to the status quo pre-UIGEA would be
optimal, it isn't going to happen. >> Stay informed about: Legalize and regulate online gambling, study urges |

I'm all for that ... That's like punishing speeders instead of putting
regulators on carburators ... punish a crime rather than try to
regulate its possibility out of existence ... >> Stay informed about: Legalize and regulate online gambling, study urges |
