Post subject: Online SNGs vs Online Cash Games?
Archived from groups: rec>gambling>poker (more info?)

I've been playing almost exclusively $55 SNGs at Full Tilt for some time.
Not the greatest ROI, but still on the plus side, and a few big MTT cashes
along the way. Typically I would play 3 of those a day, about 25 days a
month.

This month I got my first half Ironman Bonus ($375) and only the month of
July to clear it, so knowing I would have to play a whole lot to clear
that (to put it in perspective, that's 215 $50+5 SNGs) I decided to give
the 1/2 NLH 6-handed tables a try. These tables have much more action (at
least at a first glance) than the full tables, and I figured the larger
average pots would help me clear points quicker.

Well, I was certainly right about that - I can clear 250 or so points in
less than 2 hours, playing 2 tables at a time. What surprised me the most
though, was the relative ease I found in turning a profit. Yeah, I know
it has only been a week and a half, but it made me wonder if I should have
ever been playing SNGs in the first place. I have to admit, I'm playing
relatively tight, but I am stealing my share of pots, keeping the pots
small with my small hands, and trying my best to get them big with my big
hands, but all in all I am really comfortable in this game.

I know SNGs and MTTs are where all the hype is, but are the cash tables
where the consistent money is really made?

Just wanted to see if you guys have any insight in this.

For the record, I play a bunch of 1/2nl in Niagara Falls, so it is not
like I am naive to the differences between the games.

SNGs and MTTs are where all the online hype is because they can be tracked
easily by various sites. Cash games cannot be tracked, so there are no
fanboys around to drool all over their favorite player's results.

Cash games have much higher swings than SNGs, but definitely are the place
to make more money.
