Post subject: Any difference in strategy for a bounty tournament?
Archived from groups: rec>gambling>poker (more info?)

This is a stupid question, but I'm bored.

Pechanga has recently started having bounty tournaments. Tonight the buy
in is $50, with a $4000 guarantee, and $10 of every entry going for
bounties (every person has a $10 bounty on their head).

As usual, Pechanga tournaments only pay 1 table (10 people) [caveat:
unless they go over 200 entrants which never happens] and those 10 people
ALMOST ALWAYS chop. I've only played a couple of the bounty tourneys so
far, and played my normal game, but it seems that people A) either play
tighter than normal (I'm basing this on observing players I'm well
familiar with) or B) gamble much more than normal to try to win those
bounties.

Question is, should strategy for a low buy in tourney like this change at
all with the bounties involved?

I play the "Head Hunter" tourneys at Interpoker - the bounties are 50%
of buy-in and therefore much better than your 20% .
Basically I play fairly tight until one or two villains are short-
stacked - then more inclined to call their all-in moves .
Also get into more multi-way hands with a couple short-stacks
involved .
Good luck JD

It would seem from the anecdotal evidence I have seen in these tourneys
is that it tends to reward most of those that don't make it to the final
table anyways, or those that gamble to make first instead of the final
table or money.

If you count the number of bounties at the final table, it will be a
much smaller number than you would expect, and you may find that none of
these people got any bounties until the last 2-3 tables.

So, no, I don't think you should change your strategy, and if it
increases the number of players it's a good thing. But if it doesn't it
takes final table money and puts in the hands of the gambling masses.
