I keep hearing the assertion that all of the fish have gone away
online. I'm pretty sure that's not true. In fact, I keep a browser
tag open to SharkScope so that I can occasionally look someone up.
Here's what was in the tab today:

Some of those records are truly impressive.

I think the fish issue is in the larger buy-ins. And is most often
asserted at "pro-levels", and middle to high middle stakes.

The fish are still swimming around in the shallower pools. Though I am
sure it would be fishier if was easier to get money onto the sites for
most Americans.

Patti:

Maybe this is related to the economy in general. I was listening to a
Pokercast interview with Barry Greenstein over on the 2+2 web site.
Responding to a question, Barry commented that even the "Big Game"
played at the Bellagio has been drying up - there are fewer
"tourists" (and whales) playing in that game and it is harder than in
the past to get the game going. (I'm paraphrasing Barry's comments.)

I don't play on the internet - although I've been thinking about it -
so I don't really have a basis for judging this, but maybe the same
thing is going on with internet play as with the brick and mortars.
The last time I was in Tunica, (about a week and a half ago), business
appeared to be way down. I even talked with one of the casino
employees about this and she seemed pretty glum, blaming the reduced
floor traffic on high gas prices.

It sounds like people are worried and cutting back on their spending.
Maybe this is affecting play on the internet sites.

There's at least one left. I'll be on the tables again today.

Actually, I hear it a lot at lower stakes-- 1-2 limit omaha-8
games where blinds are stolen and walks happen.

The $50-200 SNGs certainly aren't as lucrative as they were
a few years ago, but there's definitely loose money avilable.

Huh,

I went to pokerscout for the first time in ages. And if these numbers
are right, then it does look like its down 50% from my recollections of
when I had checked before.

Wow.

Lets hope that there are enough for everyone else to live! Or at least
have a fun time playing.

Cheers!

Yet they keep on playing, and if you ask them all, at least half of the
ones with the fishbowls next to their names will insist that they are
winning players. Here's my favorite 2 sharkscopes:

There are fish left, jut a lot fewer than there used to be. I've found
profitability to be way down from where it was two to three years ago.

I deposited $50 nearly three years ago. I never redeposited except to
go from Paridise Poker to Poker Stars when The Great Poker Ban
occured. I can't say how much I withdrew (taxes, don't you know), but
I played lots of poker. I recently went to a zero balance in my
account. I will not be reloading for two reasons, first, I don't want
to give my money back and secondly, There is more to life than sitting
in front of a computer.

To the delight of many readers of RGP, I will find less reason to
post here as my intrests diverge from those who continue to play on-
line.

BTW: I have been quit for 2 Months, 2 Weeks, 4 Days, 12 hours, 6
minutes and 42 seconds (79 days). I have saved $270.31 by not smoking
1,590 cigarettes. I have saved 5 Days, 12 hours and 30 minutes of my
life. My Quit Date: 4/11/2008 7:32 AM

Sharkscope calculates average ROI on a per tournament basis, rather than
money wagered. If you make an average profit of $.65 on 1,000 $6.50
tournaments, you have an ROI of 10% on 1,000 tournaments.

If you lose an average of $10.90 on 500 $109 tournaments, you have an ROI
of -10% on 500 tournaments.

Combining these results gives you a positive ROI while still suffering a
substantial net loss.
