Post subject: Need serious help with multitable tournaments
Archived from groups: rec>gambling>poker (more info?)

I've been playing on PartyPoker for few months now. Texas Hold'em only.
To let you know about my background, here is a list of books I've red,
some of them several times:

Doyle Brunson - Super System
Phil Hellmuth, Jr - Play Poker Like the Pros
Ken Warren Teaches Texas Hold'em
Ken Warren Winners Guide to Texas Hold'em
Lee Jones Winning Low Limit HOLD'EM
David Sklansky Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players
David Sklansky Tournament Poker for Advanced Players
Sylvester Suzuki Poker Tournament Strategies
Shane Smith Poker Tournament Tips from the PROS
Alan N. Schoonmaker The Psychhology of Poker
Mike Caro Fundamental Secrets of Winning Poker
Larry W. Phillips The Tao of Poker

Here is my problem. This week alone I have played 30 ($10 entry) single
table NL, PL tournaments. Winner gets $50, second $30, third $20, takes
about an hour to complete.

My record:

22 - first
3 - second
2 - third
3 - out of money

I am ok in the full ring table games, I win in 70% of them, and if I lose
it's not much, I am very good in short handed games (6 players), don't
remember when I lost last time, all low limit, 1/2, 2/4, 3/6. I have never
played poker in a real casino, but played semi prof BJ for years. I truly
don't know how bad or good I am, I have no one to ask what I am doing
right or wrong, and by the way, sorry I am not good at poker lingo. When
watching WSOP and WPT I always think that I can take any of these guys in
a short handed game, but that what everyone probably think, lol.

But here is my real problem, I am absolutely horrible in multitable
tournaments, out of 15 I've played so far, I've placed in the money only 3
times, and never got into final table. (17th, 18th, 35th)

Please take me seriously, what do I need to do in order to improve my
multitable tournament game. I believe I know practicaly everything there
is to know about them from books and my participation, but it doesn't help
to improve my game. What's wrong? What do I need to do? I am absolutely
hooked on poker and take it very seriously.

The only idea I can come up with is that I am not good at all. Probably
other players at single table tournamets and low limit games are much
worse then me, and when I play big tourney I am up against much better
players.

I would appreciate any thoughts on my problem, thank you.

So, you spent $330 on buyins and won $1230: +900.

Here is my solution:
Since you are now $900 richer, move up to $30+3 single tables. Win a
few of those, and move to $50+5. When your bankroll is $2000 or so,
you are safe playing $100 buyin single table tournaments. Quit your
day job.
Play about 50 one table tournaments a week for 5 years. Get a broker
who can put your winnings in some reliable preferred stocks or
something that pay around 7%. At this point you can go into
semi-retirement, and just play 1 table tournaments a couple days a
week. This will leave time for your hobby, multi-table tournaments,
which require a lot more luck.

what u talkin about dude, it seems like u are doing really good, i still
have never placed in the money in a multi table, consider yourself lucky.
and your single table tournament record is much better than mostly
everybody too

It's doable, if these are the ones at Party. Finishing in first 22 times
is a lot more suspicious to me, considering the amount of luck involved.
But, maybe he kicks but at shorthanded play.

There is no frickin way that you've won 22 of 30. Go sell crazy somewhere
else. We're all stocked up here.

I like Grant's Idea!

Don't get discouraged. Have fun with the multiples, they just require more
luck since for most of the tourney you play at a full table. Sometimes you
get the cards you need, sometimes you don't.

I like the two table tourneys on pokerstars, because you start at a full
table which becomes short handed before the tables combine, so you will get
to play at two full tables and two short tables.... if you're still around.
These two table tourneys play well to good short game players.

good luck

I realy don't want to to into all details, it's too much do talk about,
but it realy, realy helped. 2 days ago I had my best multitable tourney so
far.
out of 130+, (it was not a realy big one but still) I've placed 3rd.

I've tried $30+3 tournies twice, and placed 2nd and 3rd ($90 and $60),
but I did like it. I don't know what's wrong with those people playing $30
tournies, but it is unbelievably slow, They all practilcay use all the
time allowed, so to complete one takes about 2Hr !!!!!. A simple check
takes 30sec, a simple pre-flop call 30sec. Unreal. I've tried $25 NL ring
games and love those.
