I am getting quite proficient at putting people on a hand. The thing is it
is costing me a small fortune calling the all ins and big bets to see if I
am right (often I am, or not far off). When I was just playing the cards in
MY hand, I did better.

Am I missing something?

That reminds me.

How do you make a small fortune?

Start off with a large fortune then buy a 2nd division football club

I assume this is a troll?

On the off chance that it isn't, the answer is that you don't
call to see if you're right. You call if your assessment of
your opponent's hand suggests that you should call.

Maybe it was a troll.

Sorry , I was in a silly mood yesterday. But I bet everyone has done it at
least once. You are pretty sure you are beat, but still call just in case,
or for the small satisfaction in knowing you were right.

We call them curiosity calls, or calling for information.

In limit, calling for information is occasionally enough to
turn a very marginal fold into a very marginal call. That's
the case less often in nolimit though, since the ratio of bet
size to pot size is often quite different.
