Besides authors, I would add: parents, teachers, politicians,
preachers, and...well...now that I think about it, everybody.
Think for yourself, and get yourself educated (by any means, not just
via schools). Keep an open mind, but don't be willing to swallow
something just because you hear it from an authority figure.
